Currency and Banks/ATM (Cash Machine) Information
There are many currency exchange facilities in Boston. Most banks exchange currency as do a number
of travel centers in the city. However, exchange services are more limited outside of Boston,
and it is best to carry US Dollar currency traveler checks or small amounts of U.S. cash.
New England businesses accept most credit cards (not international debit cards) and US Dollar
traveler's checks. Some restaurants accept cash only. Some businesses may require a photo
identification card (passport or other identification) before cashing traveler's checks.
Banks are often typically from Monday to Friday 9AM - 5PM and sometimes on Saturday
morning from 9AM - 12Noon.

State Sales Taxes
The individual New England states have different sales taxes on general items such clothing.
Please see below:
Connecticut: 6%
Massachusetts: 5% (no tax on clothing less than $175)
Maine: 5%
New Hampshire: no tax
Rhode Island: 7% (no tax on some clothing)
Vermont: 6% (no tax on clothing less than $110)
The lodging tax also varies from state to state. Check with hotels directly regarding
the rate of state meals and room tax. You may also check for any other fees such as
gratuities or, in some cases, daily resort fees.
