Northern New England Coast and Mountains & Lakes of New Hampshire

11nts/12days
From Massachusetts through New Hampshire and onto Maine, the northern New England coast offers everything from long sandy beaches to picturesque fishing harbors, to artist's colonies and charming coastal villages. This tour allows you to explore the nooks and crannies of the dramatic Maine coast and then also experience New England's diverse landscape as you head into the 'Presidential' mountains of New Hampshire and discover the spectacular White Mountains and picturesque Lakes Region.

Day One: Boston, Massachusetts
If this is your first visit to New England, then allow yourself some time in Boston. Typically we recommend at least two nights to familiarize your self with 'America's Walking City'. (Please see Grand Tour Itinerary, Days One - Two). If you have already visited Boston, stay a couple of extra days and maybe visit some of the sights that you missed the first time around?

Suggested Highlights:
  • Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (www.gardnermuseum.org)
Close to Boston's fine Museum of Fine Arts you will find the more intimate art collection of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum which is housed in a Venetian style palazzo.
  • Harvard University (www.hmnh.harvard.edu )
Across the Charles River is Cambridge, home to one of the world's great universities Harvard. The lively student atmosphere thrives off and on campus and there are great inexpensive cafes and shopping. You can take a free tour of the Harvard campus and visit their impressive museums including the Harvard Museum of Natural History.
  • Fenway Park (www.redsox.mlb.com)
Home of the Boston home team 'The Red Sox', the World Champions in 2004 and 2007. You can experience either a game or a tour of Fenway, the oldest baseball stadium in the country and have a true slice of American sports history.
Spend at least 2nts in Boston

Day Twelve: New Hampshire - Depart/Boston
Today you head south back to Boston. If you are driving from Jackson, NH area in the White Mountains, you are approximately three hours from Boston. Allow yourself some time to stock up on the great bargains to be had at the North Conway outlet center remembering that there is no sales tax in New Hampshire and you will be shocked at how low the prices really are! If you are staying in the Lakes Region, you will be approximately two hours from Boston for departure at Logan. You will also have the chance to visit the Lakes Region outlet center for those last minute bargains. A smaller center than North Conway there are still some great opportunities!

You may of course want to head directly to Boston to catch up on last minute sightseeing in the city before your overnight flight home.
